Electric Response of Biomolecules: Field-driven relaxation and local oscillations

2023

Group Retreat IBI-4, BerlinBerlin, Germany, 15 Dec 2023 - 16 Dec 20232023-12-152023-12-16

Abstract: Here, the ongoing research works are presented shortly for open discussion platforms that are combined with the educative purpose of younger scientists, among senior and acting scientists in IBI-4, FZJ.The contents started with the 3 main leading home-built instrumentations, followed by experimental performances of basic functional proteins (BSA and lysozyme) in aggregation kinetics and microscopic dynamics. As one of the highlighted examples of field-driven relaxations, fatty-acid free BSA solutions in low-salt exhibit quite pronounced response in the intermediate scattered correlation function, due to the reorientation of the BSA-protein aggregates in a low AC electric field modulation.Lysozyme-salt enzymatic protein crystals are also shown forming in both real and Fourier space, where the orientational distributions are interested to analyze. Finally, the talk is wrapped up with 3 other systems in external collaboration (IBG-2, FZJ, Bristol, UK and S. Korea) with the electric field-induced responsive bio macromolecules.
