001020361 520__ $$aM 31 is a large spiral galaxy that is located in close proximity to our own Galaxy. The well known distance to it and the moderate foreground absorption in its direction makes it an ideal target for source population studies. Its X-ray source population has been intensively studied by XMM-Newton. Based on a recently published catalogue of UV sources detected with AstroSat, we identified UV counterparts of X-ray sources in the field of M 31 observed with XMM-Newton. We investigated the UV colours and fitted UV spectra with simple phenomenological models. In addition, we used the X-ray spectral fits of the XMM2Athena project to study the X-ray spectra and see how they evolve with time.We discuss our results in terms of the different source populations that can be identified in the field of M 31.
