001029343 520__ $$aCross sections for (D-D) fusion reaction are barely known for low beam energies, especiallyexperimentally at, or below 10 keV. In this thesis, a nuclear polarimeter as a solid stateexperiment, has been designed, built and at these energies for deuterium beams tested. Firsttests with a titan target showed no evidence of nuclear reaction. Further experiments atbeam energy of 6.22 keV with a deuterated polyethylen target revealed a small, yet noticiblecount rate of reactant protons of the fusion reaction D(d,p)D.
