%X Research software is crucial in scientific discovery and is often developed by researchers within their communities. Unlike commercial software, it lacks market constraints, allowing diverse forms from basic code to full research infrastructure. Research software is increasingly recognized as a valid research output, as seen in guidelines from the German Research Foundation (DFG). This shift creates new roles for libraries in publishing, archiving, and managing citations for research software. Given that software, unlike data, is executable and often integrates complex dependencies, libraries must adopt specialized approaches for its support and preservation.
