Abstract: Production of synthetic methanol can be powered by renewable energy with carbon dioxide and water sourced from the atmosphere using direct air capture (DAC). The captured components are then co-electrolyzed to produce syngas used in methanol synthesis. This first progress presentation highlights the methodology and modeling of the solid oxide co-electrolysis in Aspen Plus to simulate syngas production. After validation, the co-electrolysis model will be integrated with DAC model and methanol synthesis model for further process analysis.
