%X This study presents an experimental and numerical investigation of flame spread over a horizontally oriented slab of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Small-scale experiments were conducted under controlled boundary conditions, and measurements of rate of spread (ROS) and surface temperatures were used to validate predictions from the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), a CFD tool widely used in fire safety engineering. Using state-of-the-art models for PMMA pyrolysis, the study evaluates how gas-phase grid resolution affects predicted ROS and surface temperatures. Results indicate a strong dependence on grid resolution, showing that finer grids yield better agreement with measured surface temperatures, but tend to overpredict the ROS.
