Abstract: Historically, accessing supercomputers has been rather tedious and often required substantial technical knowledge, limiting their user base to a small group of highly skilled individuals. However, as demand for computation grows, more scientific users are seeking access to these resources. In this paper, we leverage large language models (LLMs) to provide a novel approach for accessing supercomputers. We describe the technical details of this integration, followed by an initial evaluation demonstrating the solution’s ability to handle standard scientific use cases and offering insights into system performance. Our goal is to broaden the user base for supercomputing facilities, while the solution also holds interest from an AI perspective: it extends the language-based information retrieval interface of LLM agents with powerful processing capabilities, potentially accelerating scientific discovery.
