Abstract: Due to their unique structural and electronic properties, acceptor-doped ceria and zirconia materials with the general formula A3+2B4+2O7 are promising candidates for electronic and energy applications. Using La2Ce2O7 as a benchmark, this study investigates the relationship between structural motifs and electronic behavior of cerates and zirconates containing Pr as an (additional) redox-active species. Structural analysis was performed using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy revealing disordered fluorites for Pr2Ce2O7 and La2Ce2O7 with an increasingly ordered structure for LaPrCeZrO7 and Pr2Zr2O7 having a pyrochlore structure. Using a micro-contact Hebb-Wagner method alongside electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in various atmospheres provided precise information about the partial electronic, proton, and oxygen ion conductivities. The results reveal clear correlations between structural features and transport properties with materials containing Ce and Pr showing markedly increased electrical conductivity. Pr₂Zr₂O₇ exhibits the highest proton transference numberamong comparable materials below 500 °C, underlining its potential for low- to intermediatetemperature proton-conducting applications.
