Abstract: We present the design and implementation of a solid-state fan analyzer covering 120° withminimized blind spots and satisfactory transmission. The analyzer is part of the instrumentMAGiC, a neutron diffractometer and currently under construction at the European SpallationSource (ESS) in Lund, Sweden. The instrument is dedicated to studies of magnetic propertiesin both applied and purely fundamental systems, ranging from magnetic structure refinementto magnetic diffuse scattering from single crystals and powder samples. MAGiC is expected towelcome first users in the end of 2027.MAGiC will deliver a permanently polarized neutron flux for both thermal (0.6–2.3 A) andcold (2–6 A) spectra. For the cold spectrum, longitudinal XYZ polarization analysis allowsseparation of all individual scattering terms arising from magnetic diffraction. For λ>2 A, the wide-angle analyzer is based on the principle of internal reflections of magneticFeSi multilayers in straight, 150 μm thin Si channels at 900 mm from the sample. This internalreflection avoids the scattering length density step present between air and the supermirrors. The Si channels are combined to fanned stacks. This technique yields high transmission andproduces little to no blind spots on the detector in contrast to current supermirror-based wideangleanalyzers. Particular care has been paid to the design of the holding field that provides ahigh field of minimum 0.1 T over the complete 120o with very high uniformity in the reflectionplane. We report on the design, validation measurements performed at several neutroninstruments and production status of the analyzer.
