Abstract: In our study, we investigate how people wait actively or passively in a bottleneck crowd and determine categories of "activity" by combining measures of density and the dynamics. We apply the proposed categorisation to a case study dataset. The aim of our investigation is to find out what conclusions can be drawn from the categories found with regard to waiting activity, as we expect inhomogeneities to have an effect on a macroscopic scale. For instance, variations in the capacities or evacuation times may be observed due to the presence of these inhomogeneities.
