Note: The “Joint Programme on the Technical Development and Further Improvement of IAEA Safeguards” was offered to the International Atomic Energy Agency by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany by letter of 13 September 1978, and was officially accepted by the Director General on 5 October 1978. The aim of the German Support Programme is to assist the Agency in the elaboration of effective and practicable safeguards, thus contributing to strengthening the Agency in this field. Accordingly, the Support Programme comprises research and development in the field of safeguards and includes the provision of expert advice to the Agency.
