Research Interests

  1. Electronic excitations at metal surfaces:
    • linear surface optics
    • nonlinear surface optics (SHG, SFG)
    • collective surface modes (electron energy loss spectroscopy)
    • dynamical van der Waals interaction
    • surface resistivity, electronic friction
    • clean simple metal surfaces, alkali metal overlayers
    • neutral and charged metal surfaces, metal-electrolyte interfaces
    • noble metal surfaces, influence of occupied d bands on surface excitations
    • lifetimes of hot electrons at noble metal surfaces (GW theory)
    • magneto-optical Kerr effect for non-equilibrium electron distributions
    • field emission from realistic metal surfaces

  2. Strongly correlated materials:
    • dynamical mean field theory
    • Quantum Monte Carlo methods
    • self-energy of multi-band Hubbard systems
    • quasi-particle spectra of perovskite systems
    • surface vs bulk Coulomb correlations in perovskites
    • surface vs bulk metal-insulator transitions
    • orbital-selective Mott transitions
    • Quasi-particle spectra of correlated electron systems:
