JUSIFA, Juelich's user-dedicated small-angle scattering
facility
The JUSIFA double crystal monochromator allows energy
tuning fully under computer control by two independent
crystal rotations and a horizontal translation of the second
crystal for a fixed-exit operation. Beam height variations of
the DORIS beam are corrected by a vertical translation of the
first rotation stage.
The set up of X-ray energy, sample detector distance, as well
as the change and orientation of samples and internal
references is controlled by a personal computer which itself
is controlled by programs running on a larger workstation.
The software allows to run a preselected program of
measurements at several samples, internal references, and
scattering backgrounds at a set of X-ray energies, e.g. near
absorption edges and to determine the structural parameters
of the nanostructures under study.
at the synchrotron source DORIS in
DESY/Hamburg,
provides a small angle scattering beamline specifically
designed for anomalous scattering experiments in materials
science with a real space resolution on the length scale,
D = 1/Q = 0.5 , ... ,100 nm.
To cope with anisotropic scattering patterns, measurements
are performed with pinhole collimation and a two-
dimensional position sensitive detector, i.e. a multiwire
proportional counter (MWPC) with 256 x 256 resolution
elements (pixels) and 180 x 180 mm2 active area. To cover
an extended region in reciprocal space, 5 different sample-
detector distances can be set up, the samples, with a typical
size 1.5 X 1.5 mm2, can be tilted relative to the incoming
beam around two perpendicular axes in a diffractometer like
rotation stage. For ease of measurement up to ten samples
are mounted on preadjusted standardized multispecimen
holders and positioned under computer control. This allows
for running time-saving measurement programs, for instance
with a series of differently prepared samples.
