%X In collaboration between the ForschungszentrumJülich (FZJ) and the ForschungsneutronenquelleHeinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) a single crystaldiffractometer optimised for crystals with largeunit cells is being built. Its scientific focus will bethe determination of the exact location and bond-ing properties of hydrogen atoms in protein orDNA crystals. With this information the hydrationpattern of proteins can be studied, the protona-tion state of critical amino acid side chains canbe determined and even dynamical informationcan be obtained by determining the hydrogen-deuterium exchange of the protein backbone. Inorder to achieve these results two detector con-cepts are foreseen: a) an image plate detectorcovering a large solid angle and b) a neutronscintillator imaged onto a CCD-camera providinga fast read out for a timely alignment of the crys-tals and additional detection abilities.
