abstract = {The local field potential (LFP) signal is obtained as a low
frequency component, typically below approximately 100 Hz,
of extracellular recordings of neuronal electric activity.
It has been shown in various species and various
cortical/subcortical brain regions that LFPs exhibit
distinct oscillations in a wide range of frequencies.
Previous studies have identified modulations of these
oscillatory activities as reflecting changes in the
functional states of perceptual, cognitive, and motor
processes in the brain. This tutorial will first provide an
overview on basic signal processing tools to detect, extract
and quantify spectral components from continuous brain
signals, and then proceed to introduce and demonstrate
several analysis tools to study interrelations between
multiple spectral components in terms of, for example, phase
locking and cross-frequency coupling. As an advanced topic,
tools for spike-to-LFP phase locking analysis will also be
                      presented.},
