A laboratory experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of soil drying and wetting on the release of pesticide residues. Soil containing environmentally long-term aged (9-17 years) (14) C-labeled residues of the herbicides ethidimuron (ETD) and methabenzthiazuron (MBT) and the fungicide anilazine (ANI) showed a significantly higher release of (14) C activity in water extracts of previously dried soil compared to constantly moistened soil throughout all samples (ETD: p < 0.1, MBT and ANI: p < 0.01). The extracted (14) C activity accounted for 44% (ETD), 15% (MBT), and 20% (ANI) of total residual (14) C activity in the samples after 20 successive dry-wet cycles, in contrast to 15% (ETD), 5% (MBT), and 6% (ANI) in extracts of constantly moistened soils. In the dry-wet soils, the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content correlated with the measured (14) C activity in the aqueous liquids and indicated a potential association of DOC with the pesticide molecules. Liquid chromatography MS/MS analyses of the water extracts of dry-wet soils revealed ETD and MBT in detectable amounts, accounting for 1.83 and 0.01%, respectively, of total applied water-extractable parent compound per soil layer. These findings demonstrate a potential remobilization of environmentally aged pesticide residue fractions from soils due to abiotic stresses such as wet-dry cycles. 000016336 536__ $$0G:(DE-Juel1)FUEK407$$2G:(DE-HGF)$$aTerrestrische Umwelt$$cP24$$x0 000016336 588__ $$aDataset connected to Web of Science, Pubmed 000016336 650_7 $$2WoSType$$aJ 000016336 65320 $$2Author$$aPesticides 000016336 65320 $$2Author$$aPersistence 000016336 65320 $$2Author$$aRemobilization 000016336 65320 $$2Author$$aLeaching 000016336 65320 $$2Author$$aRisk assessment 000016336 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)VDB43263$$aLinden, A.$$b1$$uFZJ 000016336 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)VDB98706$$aKöppchen, St.$$b2$$uFZJ 000016336 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)129410$$aThiele, B.$$b3$$uFZJ 000016336 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)129471$$aHofmann, D.$$b4$$uFZJ 000016336 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)VDB202$$aBurauel, P.$$b5$$uFZJ 000016336 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2027441-5$$a10.1002/etc.1851$$gVol. 31, p. 1941 - 1947$$p1941 - 1947$$q31<1941 - 1947$$tEnvironmental toxicology and chemistry$$v31$$x0730-7268$$y2012 000016336 8567_ $$2Pubmed Central$$uhttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3465778 000016336 8564_ $$uhttps://juser.fz-juelich.de/record/16336/files/FZJ-16336.pdf$$yRestricted$$zPublished final document. 000016336 909CO $$ooai:juser.fz-juelich.de:16336$$pVDB 000016336 9131_ $$0G:(DE-Juel1)FUEK407$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF2-240$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF2-200$$bErde und Umwelt$$kP24$$lTerrestrische Umwelt$$vTerrestrische Umwelt$$x0 000016336 9132_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-582$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF3-580$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF3-500$$aDE-HGF$$bKey Technologies$$lKey Technologies for the Bioeconomy$$vPlant Science$$x0 000016336 9141_ $$y2012 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0010$$2StatID$$aJCR/ISI refereed 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0110$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0111$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bThomson Reuters Master Journal List 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0310$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bNCBI Molecular Biology Database 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1040$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bZoological Record 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1050$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bBIOSIS Previews 000016336 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1060$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences 000016336 9201_ $$0I:(DE-Juel1)IBG-2-20101118$$gIBG$$kIBG-2$$lPflanzenwissenschaften$$x0 000016336 9201_ $$0I:(DE-Juel1)IBG-3-20101118$$gIBG$$kIBG-3$$lAgrosphäre$$x1 000016336 9201_ $$0I:(DE-Juel1)ZCH-20090406$$gZCH$$kZCH$$lZentralabteilung für Chemische Analysen$$x2 000016336 970__ $$aVDB:(DE-Juel1)130182 000016336 980__ $$aVDB 000016336 980__ $$aConvertedRecord 000016336 980__ $$ajournal 000016336 980__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)IBG-2-20101118 000016336 980__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)IBG-3-20101118 000016336 980__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)ZEA-3-20090406 000016336 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED 000016336 981__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)IBG-3-20101118 000016336 981__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)ZEA-3-20090406 000016336 981__ $$aI:(DE-Juel1)ZCH-20090406
