520 _ _ |a THE COMPETENT INCORPORATION MONITORING BODY JÜLICHP.Hill, M.Froning, M.Schläger, M.V.ZoriyForschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, S, 52425 Jülich, GermanyIntroduction: In accordance with the German Radiation Protection Ordinance the Competent Incorporation Measurement Body at Jülich (CIMB-J) is notified for in-vivo and in-vitro assessments of internal dose in the surveillance of occupational radiation workers. Activities within this testing field are accredited according to the German adaption of ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Besides to the research centre Jülich (JÜLICH) itsself CIMB-J offers its services to national and international customers. About 2000 assessments are performed annually.Testing methods: Testing methods used include ICP-MS, Low-Level Beta counting, LSC, Alpha spectrometry and whole-body counting. There is a large range of radionuclides that can be assessed. Examples in excretion analysis (urine, faeces) are among others H-3, C-14, Sr-90, Tc-99, Po-210 and isotopes of Th, U and Cm. The whole-body counter can count gamma-rays in the energy range of ~25-2000 keV and perform organ measurements (e.g. thyroid). Typical radionuclides measured are Mn-54, Mn-56, Cr-51, Fe-59, Co-60, Zn-65, Tc-99m, I-125, I-133 and Cs-137. Testing parameters include activity, specific activity, mass (ICP-MS) and individual body dose. Quality assurance: CIMB-J puts a lot of effort into assuring the quality of its testing results. Details are given in a seperate contribution to this conference.Flexible scope of accreditation: The flexible scope is associated with a certain freedom in choosing testing procedures. The modification of existing methods as well as the development and introduction of new procedures makes an immediate reaction to changed requirements feasible and supports the continual improvement process of CIMB-J. Advantages of recent new procedures and modified methods include better detection limits, assessment of additional isotopes and improved cost-efficiency as well as reduction of processing times, downtimes and hazard potentials.Dose assessment: For German customers dose generally must be calculated according to a German guideline for incorporation monitoring. Experts at CIMB-J are familiar with international guidance documents (e.g.ICRP). Expert software (e.g. IMIE, IDEAS) is used in support of special assessments.Reporting: Reports of testing results to the customers agree with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. CIMB-J is allowed to use the ILAC-Symbol on its reports. This certifies the international recognition of testing results. National Dose Registry: For incorporation measurements within the ambit of the German Radiation Protection Ordinance results are routinely reported to the National Dose Registry.Mobile in-vivo monitoring: JÜLICH operates mobile in-vivo counters. There the detection of Cs-137 and Co-60 are of special interest. Past and present projects include e.g. assessments at SNTS (1995) and Chernobyl follow-up studies (1991-today). A WBC for babies and toddlers is available.
