Abstract: Metal/air batteries are promising new battery systems for the post-lithium era. This contribution reports on our work on the development and realization of NMR and EPR based methods for 'in-operando' investigations of transport properties and transformation reactions on microscopic as well as macroscopic length scales. To facilitate a systematic development and improvement of batteries and fuel cells, the construction and integration of unique NMR components, new battery and fuel cell designs as well as algorithms for data analysis are required.
