Flow Instabilities due to Shear-Gradients with Concentration

2014

Seminar, Seoul National Univ. SeoulSeoul National Univ. Seoul, South Korea, 23 Dec 2014 - 23 Dec 20142014-12-232014-12-23

Abstract: Shear-induced flow instabilities is the instability of the shear-gradient concentration coupling (SCC)-instability due to coupling of shear-gradient induced mass transport and concentration [1, 2]. This leads to a self-amplifying increase of spatial gradients of the shear rate, provided that the viscosity is sufficiently strong depending on the concentration. The origin of the shear-gradient induced mass flux will be discussed, as well as the stationary flow- and concentration-profiles for the systems of yield stress (glassy) hard-spheres [3].[1] J.K.G.
