Abstract: Maximum CPU utilization is one of KFA's main objectives running the CRAY computers. If the workload is dominated by jobs which require all of main memory or nearly all of the available temporary disk space it becomes difficult to reach this goal. This paper will describe job characteristics of a typical workload and system parameters of the CRAY Y-MP and discuss potential solutions as well as changes made to the system configuration and their effects.
