Abstract: A mathematical model has been developed to simulate the field distributions in a single planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) in three dimensional space. After dividing the cell into discrete volumes, the steady state heat, mass and charge transport equations for each discrete point were solved. This calculation considers the diffusion of the gases in the porous electrodes as well as the heat production of the electrochemical reaction at both electrodes. Additionally, in the anode pores, the effect of the cermet structure on the cell characteristics was considered. A reaction mechanism at the cathode was taken into consideration.
