Abstract: Chemical and thermal material properties are necessary as input parameters for fire spread modeling. They are often analyzed by the use of the cone calorimeter and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In this research work, a general approach to develop input parameters based on different experiments is shown. The TGA is used to determine the pyrolysis process and the mass loss calorimeter (MLC) to examine the heating behavior, as well as the flame spread. The approach is exemplified by black Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).The fire simulations are modeled by the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS, version 6.3.2). Furthermore, the thermal and pyrolysis properties are additionally derived, by using an optimization algorithm. The FDS pyrolysis model input parameters are optimized to fit the data from the mass loss cone and TGA experiments.
