Abstract: Skutterudites are an interesting class of host-guest structure thermoelectric materials. It is possible to tune the transport properties of skutterudites in a wide range by modification of structure and doping. The presence of the large cavities in the structure and the recently proposed self-insertion mechanism make investigations of the high-pressure behavior of skutterudites very interesting. We present compressibility studies on the unfilled CoSb$_3$ and FeSb$_3$ skutterudites, as well on the filled Tl$_0.8$FeCo$_3$Sb$_12$ skutterudite. The studies were carried out by high-pressure synchrotron radiation diffraction. A third order Birch-Murnaghan isothermal equation of state was fitted to the experimental data between ambient pressure and 34 GPa for CoSb$_3$, 14 GPa for FeSb$_3$, and up to 31.4 GPa for Tl$_0.8$FeCo$_3$Sb$_12$.
