Abstract: Nano-scale membranes are often formed by amphiphilic molecules. So, cell walls consist of lipid bilayers in an aqueous environment. The structure and dynamics have been characterized manifold – mostly in the volume without alignment, or in concentrated systems with small amounts of water. Either way, these systems are quite well understood. In the volume, the Helfrich free energy takes the elastic properties of the membrane as dominating over other factors. In the concentrated systems, the focus was on in-plane movements of single or few molecules. The presented systems of this contribution deal with membranes in considerable amounts of liquid, be it microemulsions [1, 2] or lipid bilayers [3]. We study the membrane modes (undulations) that can be over-damped or with viscoelastic properties. These aspects give insight to macroscopic rheological behaviour and to stability against mechanical shocks. In this way, the microscopic picture about structure and dynamics is used to understand real life problems and applications on macroscopic scales.[1] M. Kerscher, P. Busch, S. Mattauch, H.
