The discontinuities of the curvature lead to jumps in the vertical component and to the appearance of a horizontal component. The Mercier criterion for localized interchange instabilities is evaluated near the racetrack axis and for a circular plasma cross section and the destabilizing effect of the straight sections and of an additional toroidal field divertor is investigated.
