Once the diagnosis has been established, there is an uncertainty how SFN may progress, whether larger fibers will become involved over time, whether quality of life may be compromised, or whether repeated diagnostic workup in patients with unknown underlying cause may increase the yield of treatable causes of SFN. Methods: We evaluated 16 patients with documented long-time course of idiopathic SFN. Results: Clinical and electrophysiological course remained stable in 75% of the patients, while 25% SFN-patients developed large fiber neuropathies. Conclusions: Our data suggest that SFN represents a benign disease course in the majority of patients without severely limiting the quality of life. 000844607 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-572$$a572 - (Dys-)function and Plasticity (POF3-572)$$cPOF3-572$$fPOF III$$x0 000844607 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aHaupt, Walter F.$$b1 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aBrunn, Anna$$b2 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aDeckert, Martina$$b3 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)131720$$aFink, Gereon Rudolf$$b4 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aLehmann, Helmar C.$$b5 000844607 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aWunderlich, Gilbert$$b6$$eCorresponding author 000844607 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)1482237-4$$a10.1159/000487717$$gp. 161 - 165$$p161 - 165$$tEuropean neurology$$v79$$x1421-9913$$y2018 000844607 8564_ $$uhttps://juser.fz-juelich.de/record/844607/files/Flossdorf_2018_Post%20Print_European%20Neurology_Long-Time%20Course%20of%20Idiopathic%20Small%20Fiber%20Neuropathy.pdf$$yPublished on 2018-05-31.
