AB - Digitalization has opened doors for science not only to discuss the results of their research, but also to access the data underlying the results in order to make the results directly traceable and reusable. Good research data management (RDM) is the essential core of this. While research data management has been part of good scientific practice in some scientific disciplines for decades, other disciplines have only begun to discuss what research data actually is in the course of science policy discussions over the past five years. In addition, there is an equally large discrepancyon the part of the infrastructure facilities. While some may look back on decades ofexperience in developing and operating digital research services, others are trying toapproach new fields of activity through the topic of research data management. While research data management fundamentally reflects how scientific work functions digitally, it also challenges best practices and methods. Thus, it shakes the basic understanding of the scientific system. In an ideal world, research data management represents the foundation of a utopia of the digital science landscape. In the course of the highly dynamic development of the topic, infrastructure facilities seek their place in this ideal scenario, just as scientific actors face the high suffering pressure of an exploding number of research data and methods.
