The numerical simulations have led to quantification of uncertainties in the simulated terrestrial water cycle in terms of grid-scale representation of heterogeneity and bio-geophysical parameterisations. Ensemble simulations are thus prerequisite to quantify the uncertainty in the terrestrial water cycle, which then could also be utilised for data assimilation to improve prediction.
