%X The previous research on pedestrian dynamics has large discrepancies. In particular the study of pedestrian congestion is missing. On the one hand this thesis enlarges the data basis of pedestrian dynamics. On the other hand it demonstrates that the fundamental diagram depends on various factors and how they influence its shape and position. Furthermore, the congestion of pedestrian movement in the state of stop-and-go is quantitatively analyzed and characterized. For this purpose, four controlled laboratory experiments were conducted with one-dimensional pedestrian movement. Beside the number of subjects the factors motivation and age were varried in nine series. The data gathering allowed a data preparation with microscopic measurements. To reduce influences a one-dimensional setting (in the form of an oval) was chosen. In addition, only data of the stationary state were used. The motivation has a strong influence on the fundamental diagram, however, the difference in age of the adolescent subjects not. The analysis results let assume effects of further side factors on the pedestrian movement. The congestion characteristic „portion of time in the stop stage“ is described as a function depending on the global pedestrian density. It is robust towards the selection of the threshold of speed. Differently to the motorized traffic, where the characteristic „propagation speed of congestion“ is constant, for pedestrian traffic it declines with growing global density.
