000890428 520__ $$aEven though the elementary property, called "spin" has alreadyfound its way into medicine in the form of the "magnetic resonanceimaging", many questions about its characteristics still remain unanswered.The "Institute für Kernphysik" (Institute for nuclear physics / IKP)in the "Forschungszentrum Jülich" (Research center Jülich / FZJ) studiesthe influence of the spin on the nuclear forces to give answers tosome questions and to improve the understanding of nuclear physics.The apparatus that produces the so-called "polarized" particles, i.e.particles in a definite hyperfine sub-state, is called "atomic beam source"and together with the particle accelerator COSY (Cooler synchrotron)it is possible generate a polarized proton/deuteron beam and a polarizedhydrogen target for experiments.But it is also possible to recombine the atoms, generated by the ABS,into molecules with a defined hyperfine sub-state. This is a crucialstep for various tasks and basic research, e.g., the development of apolarized molecular ion source for striping injection like at COSY,spectroscopy of the hyperfine states of molecular ions, as improvementfor nuclear fusion power plants, the search for an electric dipole momentand as possible target for laser accelerators.In former experiments at the IKP, it was possible to produce polarizedH2 and D2 molecules. My task and the topic of this bachelor thesis isto use the existing apparatus to produce HD (Hydrogen / Deuterium)molecules in any possible hyperfine sub-state.In this thesis the theoretical foundation will be explained, the apparatusused and its operation described and the results presented.
