AB - Sintering stress and bulk viscosity for viscous sintering of glass were determined by two methods; sinter-forging and X-ray microtomography methods. Calcium aluminosilicate (CAS) glass with the diameter of 2.7 µm was chosen in sinter-forging experiment, while soda-lime glass with the diameter of 160 μm was observed by X-ray microtomography. Sintering stress of CAS glass and soda-lime glass was normalized by surface energy and the initial particle size. The normalized sintering stress of CAS glass determined by sinter-forging method was in fair agreement with values estimated from the X-ray microtomography data of soda-lime glass, despite the differences in particle shape and chemical composition. Bulk viscosity were also normalized by glass viscosity, and the normalized bulk viscosity obtained by sinter-forging method agreed fairly well with that estimated by X-ray microtomography method.
