Inorganic chemistry of 5f elements in oxo-systems: from normal to extreme conditions.

2022

Inorganic Chemistry Seminar at University of Cologne, CologneCologne, Germany, 25 May 2022 - 25 May 20222022-05-252022-05-25

Abstract: Actinides show a great diversity in their chemistry due to the complex structure of 5f electron shells and delocalization of 5f-electrones within early actinides family. One of the most remarkable properties of early actinides is a multi-valence accomplished by a great coordination diversity. For example, uranium demonstrates valences from II to VI in solid state, where IV and VI are the most usual and stable. Similar situation is with Np, P and Am. In the talk some recent aspects of early actinides (Th, U, Np and Pu) chemistry in oxo-salt systems under normal and extreme conditions (HP/HT) will be presented. Stabilization of rare U(V) with aliovalent substitution will be discussed. The importance of pressure and temperature on An-bearing phase formation and their structures will be demonstrated on examples of Th and U oxo-borate phases.
