The resulting ozone loss led to increases of ultraviolet (UV) radiation at Earth’s surface with adverse effectsn human health and the environment (Barnes et al. 2019; EEAP 2019). The chemical destruction of polar ozone occurs within a cold stratospheric cyclone known as the polar vortex, whichorms over the North Pole every winter (WMO 2018). The polar vortex between November 2020nd April 2021 was weakened by a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW; see Sidebar 5.2) event inarly January 2021 that decreased depletion of stratospheric ozone in the Northern Hemisphereuntil at least April. A similar SSW event occurred in January 2013. The progressions of chemicalzone loss in the winters of 2012/13 and 2020/21 are therefore compared below. 000911571 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF4-2112$$a2112 - Climate Feedbacks (POF4-211)$$cPOF4-211$$fPOF IV$$x0 000911571 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef, Journals: juser.fz-juelich.de 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aBoyer, Tim$$b1 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)129122$$aGrooss, Jens-Uwe$$b2 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-Juel1)129138$$aMüller, Rolf$$b3 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aBernhard$$b4 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aFioletov$$b5 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aIalongo$$b6 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aJohnsen$$b7 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aLakkala$$b8 000911571 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aManney, G.$$b9 000911571 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2029396-3$$a10.1175/2022BAMSStateoftheClimate.1$$gVol. 103, no. 8, p.
