abstract = {Complementary to Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis
(PGNAA) with cold or thermal neutrons, the FaNGaS (Fast
Neutron-induced Gamma-ray Spectrometry) instrument installed
at Heinz Maier-Lebnitz Zentrum (MLZ), enables
non-destructive analysis of large objects via the detection
of prompt gamma rays emitted in inelastic scattering or
other fast-neutron-induced reactions [1-6]. Besides creating
a modern and comprehensive catalogue of (n,n’γ) reactions
another major objective is to optimize the instrument design
with regard to its efficiency and sensitivity. As a certain
fraction of fast neutrons always scatters from the sample
towards the high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector, a filter
material must be placed in the collimation tract of the
outer shielding to reduce undesired background as well as to
prevent saturation of the detector due to higher gamma-ray
fluxes in thick samples. In this talk, originally intended to
be held at the 2nd PhD days 2022, the final results of
filter simulations performed with MCNP6 are given. Important
results from the last talk are repeated. This time a major
focus is set on the gamma-ray performance, i.e. how the
filter material influences the gamma-ray flux and
efficiency. The main results are also illustrated on a print
poster that will be presented in the following discussion.},
