Investigation of flow of blood in 3D channels that mimic the brain vasculature
Living Fluids Workshop, KU LeuvenMarrakesh, KU Leuven, Morocco, 1 Apr 2025 - 4 Apr 20252025-04-012025-04-04
Blood flow in the microvascular system presents a complex interplay between the non- Newtonian properties of blood and the intricate, tortuous architecture of microvessels. While 2D microfluidic systems have enabled detailed studies of red blood cell dynamics, recentfindings by A. [...]

Innovative Plasma Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings for Enhanced Flexibility in Gas Turbine Operation
Jülich : Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH Zentralbibliothek, Verlag, Schriften des Forschungszentrums Jülich Reihe Energie & Umwelt / Energy & Environment 665, V, 153, XXXVI () = Dissertation, Bochum, 2025
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) in power plant turbines are primarily designed for high thermal insulation properties. As a result, they enable a high combustion temperature in the turbine, making the power generation process very efficient. [...]

Rotation effect of a fissile nucleus (ROT effect) for prompt γ-rays in binary fission of 235 U by polarized neutrons of different energies
This article describes a series of studies on the effect of the rotation of the fissile 236U nucleus in the 235U(n,f) process induced by monochromatic polarized neutrons with energies of 62 meV and 270 meV. The studied effect is expressed as a shift in the anisotropic angular distribution of γ-rays emitted by excited fission fragments by a small angle relative to the deformation axis of the fissile nucleus when the neutron beam polarization direction is reversed. [...]

Anthropocentrism and the possibility of artificial cognition
Erlanger Zentrum für Philosophie und KI-Forschung, ErlangenErlangen, Germany, 14 Jul 20252025-07-14
Evaluating the cognitive capacities of large language models (LLMs) requires overcoming not only anthropomorphic but also anthropocentric biases. This article identifies two types of anthropocentric bias that have been neglected: overlooking how auxiliary factors can impede LLM performance despite competence (Type-I), and dismissing LLM mechanistic strategies that differ from those of humans as not genuinely competent (Type-II). [...]
