Eine vielseitige Polarisationsmethode für Teilchen mit einfachen Hyperfeinstrukturen

Note: Die Untersuchung von Atomstrahlen, die ein Magnetfeld durchlaufen, dessen Richtung sich entlang der Bewegungsachse ändert, führte zu einer neuen, vielseitigen Polarisationsmethode. Ein sinusförmiges Längsfeld erzeugt eine radiale Komponente, die proportional zum Gradienten des ersten Feldes ist. Solche Felder können mit zwei gegenüberliegenden Magnetspulen realisiert werden. Das longitudinale Feld erzeugt Energiespaltungen zwischen den Hyperfeinzuständen und das radiale Feld induziert Übergänge zwischen ihnen. Die Hyperfeinzustandsübergänge können durch die Absorption von Photonen beschrieben werden, deren Energie gleich der Energieaufspaltung zwischen den Zuständen ist. Die Energie der Photonen hängt von der relativen Bewegung zwischen dem Teilchenstrahl und dem Magnetfeld ab (bei einer gegebenen Wellenlänge des sinusförmigen Feldes), und die Anzahl der Photonen steigt mit zunehmender Stärke des Magnetfeldes. Daher werden ungleichmäßige Übergangsraten beobachtet, wenn das Magnetfeld der Apparatur rampenförmig verändert wird. Folglich ist es möglich, einen hohen Polarisationsgrad zu erreichen, indem man die Magnetfeldstärke anpasst. Im Allgemeinen ist die erzeugte Polarisation bei Teilchen mit einfachen Hyperfeinstrukturen höher. Sie kann jedoch auch auf Moleküle mit niedrigen Rotationsniveaus angewendet werden. Ziel des Projekts ist die experimentelle Verifizierung dieser Polarisationstechnik für Strahlen einfacher Atome oder Ionen, z.B. H, D, 3He+, usw., die für die Untersuchung der polarisierten Kernfusion benötigt werden. Außerdem wird die Anwendbarkeit der vorgeschlagenen Methode auf molekulare Wasserstoffisotope und Bor untersucht. Die numerischen Simulationen werden durch die Untersuchung der Spindynamik im Ruhezustand des Teilchenstrahls entwickelt, wobei die räumliche Variation des Magnetfelds in eine zeitliche Variation umgewandelt wird, die die Teilchen erfahren, die sich mit konstanter Geschwindigkeit bewegen. Dies legt nahe, zeitabhängige Magnetpulse auf ruhende Teilchen anzuwenden, um sie zu polarisieren. Folglich werden feste Proben theoretisch untersucht und die Grenzen der Methode bestimmt.
