Abstract: Water electrolyzers are key devices for sustainable hydrogen production through water splitting, using electricity harvested from renewable resources. However, their efficiency is often limited by processes at the anode, where the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) occurs. This work aims to contribute to the advancement of proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolyzer technology by enhancing our understanding of the complex interplay of oxygen gas evolution and multiphase transport in porous electrodes. The developed model will help identifying pathways to improve device performance and design.
