Abstract: High-temperature solid oxide cell (SOC) stacks enable co-electrolysis of H2O and CO2 into H2 and CO, providing an efficient pathway toward sustainable, carbon-neutral fuel cycles. However, SOC stacks still face degradation challenges that hinder their broad industrial implementation, particularly at high gas conversion ratios and elevated current densities. Early detection of these degradation mechanisms—using diagnostic methods such as Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)—is essential to prevent irreversible damage and extend stack lifetime.
