Abstract: In polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) water electrolysis the active material component is the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) consisting of a cathode and an anode catalyst layer (CL) coated on a proton conducting membrane. During large-scale MEA production critical process steps are the temperature treatment (tempering) of CLs and the CL decal transfer onto the membrane as they have a great impact on electrode conductivity, which is an important factor in MEA performance. To monitor the quality of these production steps a fast and reliable in-line analysis tool needs to be established. This becomes especially important as the production volume is increasing towards the GW scale. Here, we propose the eddy current technique for in-line quality control. It is an inductive, non-destructive method and provides fast and accurate sheet resistance information.
