Abstract: This dataset contains the raw data that was analysed for the publication 'Buffering effects of supporting electrolytes on pH profiles in electrochemical cells' (10.1038/s41598-025-18219-z). The dataset consists of unaltered TIFF files. The aim of the data is to verify ion transport simulations by measureing local pH values in a liquid electrolyte during an (idealized) one-dimensionsal electrochemical transport process. The tiff files show optical pH measurements (from a CCD camera) of an aqueous electrolyte containing 1M Sodiumsulfate and thymolblue as pH indicator during an electrochemical process at 3.33 mA/cm^2 (1 mA at a surface area of 0.3 mm^2). At the cathode (top) O2 is reduced, at the anode H2 is oxidised. The reactor setup and experimental details are described in the mentioned publication. The optically observable reactor area spans 7 mm (heigth) times 10 mm (width). The electrode distance is 8 mm due to sealings. time_values.txt lists the timestemps and the evaluated distance of the transition zone to the cathode. The transition zone evaluated turns from yellow to blue (8.0 pH 9.6). For experimental details see the respective article: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-025-18219-z .
