Abstract: 'Big Data' is a term that is often associated with commercial use cases related to customer segmentation, recommendation systems, or the analysis of shopping data. Nevertheless, large quantities of datasets can be also found in scientific environments and a wide variety of activities have been found to engage in getting insights from 'big data'. This talk provides an overview about European and international activities covering the European Data Infrastructure EUDAT, the international Research Data Alliance (RDA), and the German Smart Data Innovation Lab (SDIL).
