Abstract: Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) with the electrolyte Yttria stabilized Zirkonia (YSZ) are already used in prototype powerplants . Due to the high operating temperatures of 800 - 1000 °C, required for the operation of the electrolyte, enor mous stress is put an the peripheral equipment. Therefore, Gadolinia doped Ceria (Ceo.8Gdo.201.9, CGO) is discussed as an alternative Oxygen ion conductor exhibiting an higher specific conductivity in the temperature range of 300 - 800'C. Employing thin films as an electrolyte could be a further improvement in reducing the ohmic resistance of the electrolyte. Therefore sub-mm thin CGO films were prepared and analyzed in this work
