Abstract: Solid-state devices are limited by damage thresholds when it comes to the amplification and manipulation of very intense laser radiation. The current generation of high-power lasers operates very close to these thresholds. Plasma-based concepts may offer a route to the next generation of high-intensity lasers. We investigate the possibility of using plasma as amplification medium by making use of stimulated scattering processes and look into the potential of using spatially structured plasmas as photonic devices to manipulate high-power laser pulses.
