520 _ _ |a Using the Connection Machine CM-2 we investigate critical slowing down for the multi-scale update algorithm (MSU) for abelian gauge theories recently proposed by two of the present authors. From our measurements on four-dimensional U(1) gauge theory on 84 and 164 lattices, we find the critical exponent z for MSU dynamics to be consistent with zero. For reference, and as a test of our analysis technique, we verified that the Metropolis local update algorithm (LU) exhibits the random walk value z ≅ 2.
