000861164 520__ $$aWe present a study that combines polarized and unpolarized neutrons to derive the magnetic structure of the swedenborgite compound CaBa(Co3Fe)O7. Integrated intensities from a standard neutron diffraction experiment and polarization matrices from spherical neutron polarimetry have been simultaneously analyzed revealing a complex order, which differs from the usual spin configurations on a kagome lattice. We find that the magnetic structure is well described by a combination of two one-dimensional representations corresponding to the magnetic superspace symmetry P2′1, and it consists of spins rotating around an axis close to the [110] direction. Due to the propagation vector q=(1300), this modulation has cycloidal and helicoidal character rendering this system a potential multiferroic. The resulting spin configuration can be mapped onto the classical √3×√3 structure of a kagome lattice, and it indicates an important interplay between the kagome and the triangular layers of the crystal structure.
