Abstract: As Europe looks forward to the completion of the European Spallation Source ESS, a clearunderstanding has emerged in the European neutron community that this future flagshipmust be supported by a hierarchical network of accelerator-driven neutron facilities. TheLeague of advanced European Neutron Sources (LENS) has published a technical report onLow Energy Accelerator-driven Neutron Sources [1] supporting such developments.Representatives from 8 institutions with six specific projects have joined together in theEuropean Low Energy accelerator-based Neutron facility Association (ELENA) [2]. The goal ofELENA is to promote cooperation within Europe in the field of neutron sources based on anaccelerator and a low energy reaction to produce neutrons. In this contribution, we will provide an overview of the changing neutron ecosystem in Europeand the ongoing activities within ELENA.
