Abstract: The use of biochar as a soil amendment attracts increasing research interest. However, the lack of methods to detect and monitor biochar in situ limits the validation of field-scale applications of biochar. Spectral induced polarization (SIP) is a potential tool to characterize biochar in soil. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the SIP response of soil with biochar depends on both biochar and soil properties using systematic experiments as well as available mechanistic models.
