Abstract: The LHCspin project is a future experimental project to install a polarized gas target within theLHCb detector at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in order to study the internal (spin-)structure of protons and neutrons. A key requirement of the project is the development of ahigh-performance polarized target system, which consists of three major components: an AtomicBeam Source (ABS), a target chamber, and a polarization measurement system. The projectis structured in two phases. Phase I focuses on the development of the new target system andconducting feasibility tests and preliminary measurements at the LHC Interaction Region 4 (IR4)during LHC Run 4. In Phase II, the developed target system is foreseen to be integrated into theLHCb detector at IR8 to make use of new probes in a poorly explored kinematical region for theprecise measurements of quark and gluon distributions.
