Abstract: Polybenzimidazole dissolved in dimethylacetamide has been studied by 1H and 13C one and two dimensional NMR methods to investigate the polymer–solvent interactions. The resonance signals have been fully assigned, giving a complete picture of the present species and allowing a study of the involved dynamic processes. The results have been correlated with the formation of H-bonds, and with the presence of tautomeric processes in the polymer.
