Abstract: The influence of data quality on the results of a Life Cycle Assessment is discussed increasingly. In this thesis a method is shown to deal with the problem of data quality within Life Cycle Inventory in analogy to statistical error estimation in physics. This method is demonstrated and tested in a case study comparing bodies-in-white of passenger cars as conventional steel construction, light weighted steel construction and aluminium construction. Within the case study statistical error estimation treats data inaccuracy in a sufficient detailed way and it therefore allows to recognise significant differences. The numerous statistical data inaccuracies can be handled this way and the influence of systematic errors can be discussed by variation of parameters. Significant effects and relevant requirements can be shown pointedly. The results of the case study show that the standard deviation of the average value represents a suitable measure of statistical data spreads within a not site specific Life Cycle Inventory. Combined with the analysis of different scenarios, regarding the systematic errors, the reliability of a study can be estimated.
